InterMat JJ Classic Information
What: The InterMat JJ Classic is a premier preseason high school wrestling tournament.
Event Date & Location: The fourth annual InterMat JJ Classic will take place on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013 at the UCR Regional Sports Center, Rochester, Minn. Wrestling will begin at 9 a.m. CT.
Who is Eligible: Wrestlers in grades 7 through 12 are eligible to compete. No membership card is required for wrestlers or coaches.
Style: Folkstyle (scholastic style) rules will be used. Championship bracket matches will be 2-2-2 in length, while consolation matches will be 2-1-1 in length.
Entry Fee: The entry fee is $40 if registered before Oct. 10, $50 if registered after Oct. 10.
Weigh-Ins Date, Time, and Location: Weigh-ins will take place on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. CT, at Kahler Grand Hotel (Centennial Hall/Mezzanine), Rochester, Minn.
Weight Classes: The weight classes are as follows: 100, 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 160, 170, 182, 195, 220, and 285. There is a three-pound allowance (100 is 103, 106 is 109, 113 is 116, etc.). Wrestlers may change weight classes prior to weigh-ins. To do so, wrestlers or parents are required to send an email to contact@intermatwrestle.com prior to the start of weigh-ins at 4 p.m. CT on Nov. 9, 2013.
Admission: Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for students (18 and under), and free for children under 6.
Coaches: A coach/floor wristband may be purchased at the door for an additional $5. No other coaching credential is required.
Cause: The InterMat JJ Classic was created in honor of Justin "JJ" Kukowski, an avid athlete and sports fan who passed away from brain cancer in 2007. The proceeds from the event will go to the Ridgeview Medical Center's Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice Home, which is located in Chaska, Minn.
Awards: Medals will be given to the top-six placewinners in each weight class. In addition, each of the 28 finalists will receive 2013 InterMat JJ Classic fight shorts from Cradle Gear.
Officials: Certified officials will be used. Rod Frost will serve as the head official for the fourth consecutive year. Any questions relating to rules and equipment can be sent to Rod at rod.frost@charter.net.
Seeding: Wrestlers will be seeded by the InterMat JJ Classic seeding committee based on state, regional, and national accomplishments, as well as past InterMat JJ Classic placement. When registering, please include accomplishments for seeding purposes.
Brackets/Results: The brackets will be published on TrackWrestling.com.
Participant List: The participant list will be made public on Oct. 11.
