FARGO, N.D. -- The 2009 ASICS/Vaughan Junior & Cadet National Championships kicked off on Saturday in Fargo, North Dakota with the Cadet National Greco-Roman competition. There are 782 wrestlers competing in the Cadet National Greco-Roman competition across 41 states.
Below is a weight-by-weight summary of the Cadet National Greco-Roman action that took place on Saturday.
84:
Pool A: Three of the four wrestlers remaining in the pool are undefeated: Dylan Akers (Texas), Jake Smith (Alabama), and Trevor Westerlund. Akers, who went undefeated at the Cadet National Greco-Roman Duals, has three technical falls and a pin. Gabe Foltz (Minnesota) who went 2-1 on Day 1, has secured a spot on the All-American podium.
Pool B: Nkosi Moody (Illinois) is the only wrestler in the pool to have gone 4-0. Two other wrestlers, Darshawn Sharpe (Georgia) and Jared Oftedahl (Minnesota), went 3-0. Austin Loos (Wisconsin) went 3-1 with his only loss coming to Moody.

Pool A: Colton Howell (Missouri) and Jacob Schmitt (Michigan) came out of Day 1 undefeated at 3-0. Joel Shump (Illinois) went 2-1, with his only loss coming by pin to Schmitt. He will next face Howell. Matt Elsenpeter (Minnesota) went 2-2 on the day and is guaranteed to place fourth in the pool, which means he will wrestle for seventh place on Monday.
Pool B: Bobby Nachreiner (Wisconsin) is the lone wrestler to come out of the pool undefeated on Day 1. Nachreiner had a pin, technical fall, and decision. The other three wrestlers remaining, Kyndall Rutz (Colorado), Phillip Laux (Iowa), and Brandon George (Utah) have all lost to Nachreiner. Rutz and Laux are 3-1, while George is 2-1.

Pool A: Nick Roberts (Pennsylvania), a returning Cadet Nationals double champion, was dominant on Day 1, going 4-0 with four technical falls. Three other wrestlers in the pool went undefeated on Day 1: Tommy Williams (Kansas), Arthur Carmona (California), and Jake Velarde (Washington). Curtis Lampert (Nevada), Braun Marquez (Texas), and Jason Munoz are still alive in the competition.

Thompson, a double Cadet Nationals runner-up in 2008, picked up two pins and two decisions. Brancale, a USA Wrestling Schoolboy Triple Crown winner in 2008, had three technical falls and a decision. Grey, a returning Cadet Nationals double champion, had four technical falls and a pin. McQuade was nearly as dominant, picking up three technical falls, a pin, and a decision. In addition to Grey and McQuade, four other wrestlers are alive in Pool B. Those wrestlers include Earl Hall (Florida), Gunnar Wolfensperger (Iowa), Jared McKinley (Indiana), and Eric Friedman (Maryland).

Hall, an Idaho high school state champion and a FILA Cadet double All-American, completely dominated his competition on Saturday, picking up a pin and three technical falls. Brian Walker (Alabama), Austin Marsden (Illinois), and Matthew Bilodeau (Pennsylvania) all finished up on Saturday with one loss.
Pool B: Zack Rutt (Minnesota) and Anthony Abro (Michigan) both went undefeated in Pool B. Rutt, a Cadet National folkstyle runner-up, had two pins and a technical fall. Bruce McWilliams (Iowa), Skyler Carroll (Montana), and Conor Wetzel (New York) are all still alive.
