Rob Koll competed in the NWCA All-Star Classsic twice when he was a competitor for North Carolina and won both times. But now the Cornell wrestling coach is not a fan of the early-season collegiate all-star event.

On Saturday's episode of Takedown Radio, Koll expressed his displeasure for the event with Scott Casber.

"I'm not a big fan of the event," Koll told Casber. "I loved it when it actually had some meaning. It was East vs. West. I don't think they can do it now. I think there are NCAA issues about putting a name to it like that. And then they say, well, it doesn't matter, but it does matter, so it's kind of bull. I love Mike Moyer, so I hate to trash the event. But I hate the event. Does it count? Of course it counts. Either it does or it doesn't. And if it doesn't count, then don't do it."

This year's event will take place on November 22 at Titan Gym on the campus of Cal State Fullerton. It will serve as a fundraiser for the Cal State Fullerton program that is in danger of being cut. The event, which is considered an exhibition and is not counted by the NCAA, attempts to pit the No. 1 and No. 2 wrestlers in the country against each other.

Last year, three Cornell wrestlers received invitations to the NWCA All-Star Classic. Koll returns five All-Americans this season, including NCAA champion Troy Nickerson. But don't expect to see any of his wrestlers competing in this year's NWCA All-Star Classic.

"I actually don't plan on sending our guys anymore," said Koll. "It takes up an incredible amount of time. It's basically three days out of your year that you're losing for one dual meet ... and yet it doesn't mean anything. So I'm not going to support it like I have in the past. If I have individuals who really want to go, I'll certainly permit them to do it. But usually they ask me, and realistically at that time of year if they ask me what I think, it won't be something I want to support."
