Fargo, N.D. – Thousands of matches are completed, but there’s still the few placement rounds left to determine who will be wrestling for the championship at the 2005 Cadet Greco-Roman Nationals at the Fargodome on the campus of North Dakota State University.
Three of the four returning champions made their way into the All-American round, while Saturday’s only loser, Maryland’s Luke Rebertus, also advanced into the placement round after a fifth round loss.
California’s Tito Pica beat Rebertus and Pica has to beat Missouri’s Clarence Neeley to advance to the final. Neeley has to beat both Pica and Rebertus, while Rebertus needs to beat Neeley and Neeley to beat Pica to get to a classification point tiebreaker.
Andrew Long of Iowa has looked strong at 84 pounds with a 4-0 mark going into Monday morning’s match with Rhode Islands Greg Packham in the B Pool. Wade Adams of Minnesota got past returning All-American Alex Kostenborder of Oregon on a 4-4 referee’s decision to remain unbeaten in the A-Pool. Adams will face Texas’ Eric Thomas on Monday. Thomas has a loss but is still in finals contention since Pennsylvania’s Richy Reinoehl was eliminated.
At 91 pounds, Wyoming’s Tyler Cox and Michigan’s Daniel Osterman are still unbeaten, while in the B Pool Illinois’ B.J. Futrell is the only unbeaten wrestler left in the B Pool.
Eric Grajales of Florida, a returning Cadet Greco champ was tested by New York’s Ian Paddock in round five, but Grajales prevailed 10-7 to remain unbeaten. Grajales has a seventh round bye, but Minnesota’s Cole Van Ohlen is also on a roll, winning five in a row. He wrestles Paddock first thing Monday morning. Oklahoma’s Heath Jackson has come on to the scene strong, going 6-0 and making it to the All-American round in the B Pool. Also reaching the round are Oregon’s Eric Luna (with a loss) and Kansas’ Nathan Furches, the runner-up to Grajales last year at 84 pounds.
At 105, Ohio’s Bo Touris is unbeaten with a match with Texas’ Jeremy Sandoval awaiting. Sandoval lost his opening round bout but won five in a row and is still alive. Sam Spradlin of Georgia and Tyler Gateman of Washington are still alive in the A Pool.
Riley Adamson of New Mexico charged on and is unbeaten in the B Pool, as is Chad Mitchell of Georgia. Mitchell has had two one-point matches and Tyler Clark of Illinois is also unbeaten.

At 119, Trenton Washington of Nebraska has only allowed three points in seven matches en route to a 7-0 mark in the A Pool. He’s the only unbeaten left. An interesting note on North Dakota’s Josh Roberts – he’s still alive and he’s won three overtime matches in the event. In the B Pool, Ben Provisor of Wisconsin is unbeaten as is Michael Mangrum of Washington.
At 125, Rodrigo Baez of Florida is 7-0 heading into his match with DeVaughan Perkins of Nebraska in the A Pool. Another Adamson brother, Dak, is unbeaten in the B Pool with all wins coming via fall or technical fall. Derek Ellis of California is still in finals contention with a 6-0 mark.
